Effective Safety Is Like An Onion.

Effective Safety Is Like An Onion.

It has layers. One single school resource officer from the local Sheriff’s office watching over a school is NOT a layer, it’s a single point of failure.

And a single point of failure will fail every time.

The panel investigating the Florida high school massacre recommended Wednesday that teachers who volunteer and undergo extensive background checks and training be allowed to carry concealed guns on campus to stop future shootings.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission voted 13-1 to recommend the Legislature allow the arming of teachers, saying it’s not enough to have one or two police officers or armed guards on campus.

There’s more at the linked story, but the fact is, active shooters stop only when a) they run out of victims to kill or b) someone with a gun shows up to stop them.

We trust our teachers with equipping our children with an education that will help them leave a happy, successful life in the future. Isn’t time we equip our teachers so they can make sure our children have a future in the first place?

Stay tuned. I’ll have more about this next week.
